CāŠ—;
west coast comp. faire:

well it's on. jim warren has given us as much time as we need. that's
the good news. the bad, is that we need papers to him by jan 1!

rough rules are 8 pages (more is grudgingly possible), two column standard
typewriter (they reduce by 15%). i will ship a package to you, immed.
(you retain copyright (whether you wnat it or not))

dates are april 3-5 in sf.

general scheme of things: tentative plan. this plan is definitely
tentative, please hack away at it and suggest changes. nothing is fixed.

1.tutorials:
i and any volunteers will run general tutorial sessions
once a day, perhaps twice. each session about 3 hrs, covering lisp fundamentals,
functional programming, object-oriented, etc. stuff; with that i expect
to have hands-on machines for experimetnation and demo. this will
be like the programming lab i'm setting up for the santa clara course.

2 .demonstrations:
canned/semi-canned whiz demos running on whatever
candidates are lisp, logo, smalltalk, prolog SUGGESTIONS??
running on whatever. small inexpensive machines are
more desirable ...of course, we won't turn down a
		lisp machine or a dorado.
open machines for users to experiment with

 video tapes..??

jim warren suggested that we might consider having an "advanced" kind of
session sunday (apr. 5) am, when the faire participants are restricted to
sort-of "invitation only". i've heard that past genral sessions tend to
be a ZOO.

3. presented papers:
these are the most time-critical. jan 1 is the deadline for stuff to be
in california. topics are totally open for consideration within the
general mushy area of lisp like stuff.

IT WILL HELP ME **IMMENSELY** IF YOU CAN GET
SHORT ABSTRACTS AND AUTHOR INFO TO ME **IMMEDIATELY**; THAT WAY
WE CAN SORT OUT PAPERS INTO AREAS, NOT ENDING UP WITH 20 PAPERS,
ALL ON THE SAME TOPIC.

SO, PLEASE TALK TO LOCAL PROSPECTIVE AUTHORS, EXTRACT ABSTRACT, SEND TO ME
(OR CALL ME AT NUMBERS BELOW); I'LL TRY TO SORT OUT A GENERAL SCHEME OF THINGS
SO WE DON'T HAVE N PAPERS ALL ON SAME TOPIC, ITERATE IMMEDIATELY, AND
GO INTO PAPER PRODUCTION. TIME IS CRITICAL (IF NOT TERMINAL).
ONCE THIS PAPER STUFF IS SORTED OUT, THE FAIRE PEOPLE WANT TO DO A
BIG BUILD UP ON THIS SESSION, STUFFING NEXT ISSUES OF SIL. CUL. GAZ. WITH
ALL KINDS OF HYPE.

please, then turn attention to what's realistic to demo at the faire,
and, if you`re inclined, suggest topics for the tutorial (howeveer, if you're
standing up ...). i have a general outline of what i'd like to cover, but
i'm very open to suggestions.

... so, we're off. the time constraint is most unfortunate, but i think we
can hack it. the point is to move immediately.

i can be reached at (408)353-3857, and messages can be left at (408)353-2227
if yoou don't mind talking to a machine.

a bunch of us are organizing a lisp-object-oriented-functional programming
session at the computer faire for next april.

would you or your colleagues like to submit papers to
this session? if so please get in touch with me immediately. deadlines
for papers are jan 1!! i can be reached at (408)353-3857 or msgs to
machine to (408)353-2227.

general scheme of things is: tutorial, demos, and presented papers.
we have a reasonably open hand for time and format.

... and furthermore
gee, i meant to include the following msg

the computer faire is in its sixth year, started by hobby people
but is "growing up". this a three day affair with tons of bodies taking
over major auditorium in san francisco. (the sponsors --headed by jim
warren--put out a three issue newspaper as promo, and if you'd like i can
have a bunch mailed to you.

the papers are not referreed, and in the past been rather B-, but
that's a feature of growing up i guess. anyway, its a "fun" type event,
trade fair, demos, papers, tutorials,...general zoo and craziness.
so it's not a "professional-like" conference, but an enthusiastic bunch.

there's definite interest in ai/lispish stuff; the problem has been
lack of real information. this session is to fix that.

papers are to be about 8 pages; formats seem to be about same sizes and the
lisp conf masters (reduce by 15%). if you'd like, i'll send you a speakers
kit....in fact, spread the word; perhaps there are others who would like
to participate.

oh, besides the deadline, the other bad thing about the paper is
that its to be a two-column format.
